Entry permit
An entry permit is a document issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security.
Who needs an entry permit?
An entry permit is issued for:
- completion of the steps to obtain a resident visa within the specified time frame, or
- for a short-term visit to the UAE for a specific purpose (e.g. for medical treatment, business travel, tourism, transit, attending an event, visiting family members, exploring business or work opportunities).
In our article we answer the most important questions related to entry permit.
Depending on your nationality, you may need an entry permit to enter the UAE.
- Citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states (the full list is available here ) do not need any visas at all: they can freely enter the UAE without any additional formalities.
- Citizens of a number of countries (including Russia) also do not need to prepare for their trip in advance: they are provided with a free tourist visa upon arrival.
Depending on your citizenship, such a free visa on arrival may be granted for 30 days (for example, for citizens of Kazakhstan, Malaysia, New Zealand). You can check information for each specific country здесь .
“If you have a passport from one of these countries, you will be given a stamp on entry into the country indicating the date of entry. The main thing is to obtain another reason for staying in the UAE before this period expires (for example, to obtain a reason for a resident visa by becoming a shareholder in a company or getting a job), or to have time to leave the territory of the UAE” Alexey Romanov, юрист
- Those who require an entry permit when entering the UAE should take care of the basis for entry in advance.
If you entered the UAE, received an entry stamp and started to obtain a residence visa for a longer period, it will cost more, since you will need to pay for the change of status. In order not to overpay, it is best to apply for a long-term visa outside the UAE, and then enter with the issued entry permit. ” Ilya Vydrych, Development Manager бизнеса
Features and grounds for obtaining an entry permit
As noted earlier, an entry permit can be obtained to complete the processing of a resident visa within the established time frame, as well as for other purposes:
- Tourism and transit.
- Treatment.
- Education.
- Business trip.
- Visiting relatives.
An entry permit may allow single or multiple entries into the UAE and is issued for different periods. For example, an entry permit for regular visas and "green" resident visas is issued for two months, and for "golden" visas for six months with the possibility of multiple entries into the UAE.
To obtain an entry permit, you will need a sponsor who will apply for your entry permit. Such a sponsor may be:

What to do after receiving?
After receiving an entry permit, it must be printed out and presented at border control so that the border guard can stamp it to indicate that you have crossed the border. If there is no stamp, problems may arise in the future with obtaining resident visas or staying in the UAE for other purposes.
Fines and Exceeding the Entry Permit Period
If the permit expires and you are in the UAE and you do not have other legal grounds for being in the UAE, you may be fined.
The penalty for overstaying on a visitor, tourist or resident visa is AED 50 per day, calculated from the tenth day after the visa expires.
NB! If the entry permit expires and you do not enter the UAE, you will need to reissue it by paying the required fees.
